About our agency

Saskatoon Animal Control Agency (SACA) has been actively involved in our community since 2004 providing animal control services to the City of Saskatoon. In this role we work to mediate conflict between neighbors, rescue strays, return lost pets, educate irresponsible owners and attend to concerns regarding aggressive animals. In January of 2024 our role will expand to provide daily care for those animals found as strays and are held at the City Pound facility. We are currently seeking applications for staff to help assist us in returning found strays and rehoming those that are left unclaimed at the City Pound. If you would like to join an extremely dedicated team striving to ensure the wellbeing of the community members and the animals within it then this is the place!

The Role

We are currently looking for a full-time, permanent Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our team of animal care professionals. If a full-time applicant is not found, we would consider multiple part-time applicants.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Registration as a Vet Tech in Saskatchewan and references confirming good standing
  • A means of commuting to our location
  • A clean criminal record check
  • Clinical experience is preferred.
  • Emergency experience is an asset.
  • Shelter experience is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

Working alongside our Vet and Animal Care team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Evaluation of new animals at the time of intake. Generating vet referrals for these animals as needed and any related communication specific to care. Vaccination of these incoming animals.
  • Communication with adoptive families and foster homes over the phone, email, and in person regarding past medical history and medical plan moving forward (if required).
  • Ongoing physical examinations and assessments, beyond those completed at intake.
  • Completion of animal treatments using directive from our veterinarian.
  • Maintenance of records specific to animal care and treatment and administration of medications.
  • Performance of in-house diagnostics.

  • A health benefits package.
  • Paid membership dues.
  • Uniform and equipment provided.
  • Discounts on personal pet food.
  • Continuing education opportunities.

Schedule:

The animals in our care require attention seven days a week. The permanent FT RVT position will be offered preferential weekday hours.
