Operations Manager
Position: 1 Full Time
Location of work: 5028 Clarence Avenue South
The Role
The successful candidate will be part of a management team, all of who are accountable for, oversight and care of our staff, our animals and our facilities. You will be an integral part of managing, developing and maintaining a positive community relations strategy. You will assist in all aspects of our operations and will train all roles; this will include our pound services, animal care and wellness, as well as shelter services and field services. You will work primarily in animal care and wellness. We are looking for a leader who is also a team player; who works with our staff, helping them grow and develop their skills and abilities
Duties and Responsibilities
Working with our management group, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Communication with our management team and staff regarding daily challenges, ongoing shelter operation needs and issues in a positive and consistent way.
- Fostering and encouraging a strong team dynamic within our employee group.
- Coordination of our foster programs; internally, with our care team and externally, with our foster parents.
- Maintenance of legal records specific to bylaw enforcement, animal care and animal treatment and administration of medications.
- Oversight of animal welfare throughout our facility and adherence with SVMA guidelines, and the Canadian Shelter standards.
- Tracking and reporting on the implementation and maintenance of standard operating policies/procedures and related programs in our facility.
- Evaluation of new animals at the time of intake both for behavior and health alongside our Animal Care team and Officers. Generating vet referrals for these animals as needed and any related communication specific to care.
- Coordination of surgical appointments and related preparation.
- Communications with our Prosecutor’s Office regarding Bylaw enforcement matters.
- Assisting with euthanasia of animals under the directive of our veterinarian and in conjunction with the Animal Protection Act.
- Assisting with social media posts and website updates.
- Monitoring the facility, equipment and supplies and ensuring maintenance is met if required, generally through a service provider.
- Ensuring the delivery of contractual requirements related to municipal animal services
- Representing SACA in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
- Covering for other managers and staff, during periods of absence, as assigned.
What you will bring to the job:
- A diverse resume of skills and abilities, showing managerial, technical, social and clerical skills. Your resume should show an ability to multitask, while working, independently and efficiently in a timely manner.
- An ability to recognize the unique environment and challenges that the shelter provides.
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to both lead and follow; with an ability to assess the situation and determine which is beneficial based on circumstance.
- A means of commuting to our location and a valid drivers license
- A clean criminal record check
- Business operations experience from a managerial or supervisory perspective.
- Animal handling experience, time management, budgetary, and decision making skills are all essential.
- Report writing abilities and experience speaking to groups of people
- Conflict management skills.
Qualifications
- Registration as a Vet Tech in Saskatchewan
- Management experience beneficial.
- Business operations experience, including computer skills required.
- Provision of a Driver’s Abstract Required.
Physical Requirements
- Physical ability to walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required.
- Physical ability to lift and carry 40 pounds regularly.
- Working conditions include working alone, working outside in varying weather conditions, frequent interruptions, and some evening meetings.

Pay Range: $28-$31
Schedule:
The animals in our care require attention seven days a week. Given that our animal intakes continue over statutory holidays the position may require weekend and stat. holiday work.
